Port Jefferson Village

Originally a center of the shipbuilding industry, Port Jeff Village has become one of Long Island's most popular tourist destinations. Rich in history one can enjoy shopping, dining in quaint little restaurants, historic museums and spectacular waterfront views. While in town visit Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Company, Maritime Explorium, Mather House Museum plus small festivals are held during the summer, showcasing music and crafts. Port Jefferson / Stony Brook Day and Weekend Itinerary

Day 1
Start your day with a ferry ride from Bridgeport to Long Island. There’s nothing quite like being out on the open water... enjoying the fresh breeze on your face, the gentle sound of the birds above, the beauty of the blue sea and majesty of the coastline as it approaches.


Have lunch at one of the fabulous restaurants in historic Port Jefferson Village. May we suggest The Fifth Season, Ruvo, Old Fields Restaurant or Schafer’s. All restaurants located within walking distance of the ferry.


Wet your whistle with a quick taste of Long Island craft beer at Port Jeff Brewery, a small batch brewery located within walking distance of the ferry.


Take a tour of the Mather House Museum. Inside you will find information about Long Island History and the shipbuilding industry that once flourished on these New York shores. The museums complex consists of the main home of shipbuilder John T. Mather. The outbuildings consist of a country store, tool shed, butcher and barber shops, post office, carriage house, marine barn with diorama, sail loft, and Clock Museum and school. Also featured are the gardens surrounding the property, containing herb and perennial gardens.


Shopping in downtown Port Jefferson Village. Browse through a variety of boutiques, galleries, antiques and unique gift shops. For a sweet treat be sure to stop in at the Port Jefferson Frigate, ice cream parlor, bakery and candy store. Enjoy a stroll on Sand Street Beach.


End your day with a ferry ride back to Bridgeport and enjoy the the nighttime sky and spectacular shoreline under the stars. Be sure to return soon.

Head to Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook (complimentary shuttle will pick you up in Port Jefferson), check your bags in and head off for dinner in Stony Brook. Mouthwatering dishes can be found at Mirabelle Restaurant at the Three Village Inn. This hidden GEM offers a farm-to-table menu featuring dishes crafted by Executive Chef Guy Reuge. Day 2

Start your day with a complimentary, hot deluxe breakfast at Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook! Bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits, fresh fruit, yogurt and our famous cinnamon buns....plus MORE. Bon Appétit!

Take a walking (our complimentary shuttle will drop you off in Stony Brook) or driving tour of Historic Stony Brook Village. Stony Brook has an abundance of historic homes, places, parks and buildings. Stony Brook Grist Mill and Museum is Long Island’s most completely equipped working Grist Mill, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Nature lovers: Just across the street from the Grist Mill is 8 acre Avalon Park, a re-creation of the natural environment that greeted the first indigenous people to settle New York State. Its five distinct natural habitats populated entirely by native flora hold the story of our past. Enjoy the wildlife at Mill Pond Park.

For lunch, dine at one of the fabulous restaurants in Stony Brook Village Center. Try Latitude 121, Crazy Beans or Robinson’s Tea Room. There is something to satisfy every appetite.

Visit Long Island Museum. The Long Island Museum delivers with a STEP BACK IN time to rediscover America when carriages ruled the roads and see the finest collection of horse drawn vehicles in the nation! EXPLORE exhibitions on American Art & History with a Long Island connection. STROLL through beautiful landscaped gardens and historic buildings on 9 scenic acres. Take your time, there’s much to see and do at LIM.

Dinner at one of Stony Brook’s beautiful restaurants. There are several restaurants which offer a selection of varied tastes and atmospheres. We would like to suggest Pentimento Restaurant or the Country House Restaurant.
